Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker player in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching the age of one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
