Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn everything he could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos in Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to dedication and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
