Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to achieve last table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest players around the world. While competing in internet poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 NL max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the min buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the greatest poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amt.. I think television can alter our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in big stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
