Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from others kill his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win wasn’t a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is very abashed about his success. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
