NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t let the negative comments from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker competitors on the planet.
He began playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for poker. He states that he is learning every day and is very abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
