NL Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup everything he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
