NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?
Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five in which he loved taking part in different card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these card games while competing against his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard decided to put higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play countless hours and lost a majority of the time. He made some extra money by being an assistant for the poker players. He believed he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to acquire more sleep and focus attention even more on the game.
The definite improvement in his abilities happened when he started betting at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable gamblers would frequently play against each other. Howard had access into some of the greatest players in chess. With their help, he would tweak his strategic thinking abilities. He applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL texas hold’em.
Howard also helped his sister Annie Duke master poker. She was an excellent student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the World Series of Poker tournaments. Annie is one of the best women players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard moved to Vegas in 1993 and competed in money games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, Howard decided to compete in more tournaments.
