NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor on the planet by many of the top-ranked professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t let the adverse feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.
He began playing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he defeated many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying passion for poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a regular basis.
