No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse comments from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
He started competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching period and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
